Maremma was the land of Briganti and our company “Lascone” witnessed the death of one of the most famous Briganti: Fioravanti, companion of the more famous Tiburzi.

His legend is still alive among the older people, there are many places beyond and on this side of the Fiora river, which recall his stops and his raids.

In fact, for twenty-four years Tiburzi and Fioravanti dominated between Farnese, Ischia di Castro, Manciano and Capalbio, until Tiburzi was killed in the night between 23 and 24 October 1896 at the “Forane” of Capalbio.

While his companion Fioravanti four years later, on the fateful date of June 24, 1900, was invited to lunch in the “Lascone” farm, where he ate and drank abundantly and then returned to the woods right above “Poggio al vento”, where he fell asleep.

And it is at this moment that his trusted friend took off his rifle and unloaded it behind his head, thus ensuring the size of 4000 lire.

It disappears forever from the scenes of the Mareamma, on a summer afternoon, while in the fields dazzled by the sun, the harvest is reaping and the melancholy songs of a bitter land resound.
